Project Details
The project was intended to light up the major highways of Mbarara city including Mbarara-Masaka, Mbarara- Kasese and Mbarara-Kabale highway and other roads around the city. The project was intended to solve rising insecurity and darkness on the streets of the city, MBARARA CITY COUNCIL contracted AKVO INTERNATIONAL LIMITED to supply and install a total of 704 solar street lights along major streets in the city.
The project involved installation of 60W solar street mounted on a 9m poles. The solar lights were powered by two 200W solar panels, and two 150Ah batteries. The poles were casted on concrete bases of 800X800X1500mm.
Ever since the project was installed, Mbarara city has registered a reduction in the number of crimes that come with darkness on the streets. Additionally, the city has obtained a bright and clear view especially during night hours.
